Lockdown has thrown many aspects of school life into question, from classroom-based teaching to formal exams. Education and technology expert Joysy John spoke for many when she said: ‘Covid-19 has exposed these fault lines in our education system, but perhaps now we have an opportunity to reimagine what education might look like as we rebuild after the pandemic.’

I’m going to be speaking on the Reimagining schools panel at the Battle of Ideas festival on Sunday 10th October, along with Tony Breslin, Rowenna Davis, Mark Lehain & chair Gareth Sturdy. I’ll be providing some historical context for the discussion and considering whether the idea of a liberal education still has anything to offer schools today.
It’s part of a wide-ranging weekend of debates at Church House in Westminster, with themes including architecture, arts and culture, economics, health, international relations, liberty and law, lifestyle and society, science, the environment and technology.
